Delivery jobs without a bike in Delhi NCR

You don't always need your own bike to start delivery work. Some companies take riders on a cycle, and some rent out electric vehicles. Here is which ones, what the rules say about e-cycles, and what to check first.

Companies that work with a cycle

  • Swiggy: a bike, e-bike or cycle, and renting one is allowed. No driving licence is needed for a cycle.
  • Swiggy Instamart: a bike, e-bike or cycle, rented is fine. No driving licence is needed if you deliver by cycle or EV.
  • Zomato: mainly asks for a two-wheeler, but also mentions cycles.
  • Zepto: riders bring their own two-wheeler, unless Zepto provides a cycle or e-cycle.

Ask on the call which of these have openings near you.

Rent an electric vehicle instead

Some companies help with an EV:

  • Rapido: in Delhi you can rent an EV from Rapido.
  • Shadowfax: also rents out electric vehicles.
  • Flipkart Minutes: an electric two-wheeler on rent is possible through Flipkart's EV Assist, in some cities.

You can also rent a small electric bike yourself. Yulu lists Delhi among its cities and has a delivery vehicle called DeX, with a goods carrier and a mobile holder. More on costs and questions to ask in our EV rental guide.

E-cycle or e-scooter: do you need a licence?

It depends on the speed.

  • Low-speed models: if a government-approved testing agency has verified that the top speed is under 25 km/h, it is not a motor vehicle. No registration and no driving licence needed.
  • Faster models: anything faster than 25 km/h is a motor vehicle. You need a licence, registration and insurance.

Some dealers sell faster e-scooters as "low-speed" without approvals. Before you buy or rent, ask for the testing approval paper. If it goes faster than 25 km/h, don't use it for deliveries without a licence and papers.

Thinking of buying an e-cycle?

  • The Delhi EV Policy 2026 subsidy is for electric two-wheelers that get an RC. Low-speed e-cycles have no RC, so they don't get it.
  • The low-speed rules may change. A draft from 21 August 2026 would allow more motor power, but the speed limit stays under 25 km/h. Check the latest rule before you buy.
  • Renting first is a simple way to try the work before you spend money.

Documents and how to apply

Even without a bike, keep your ID and bank details ready. Swiggy asks for Aadhaar or Voter ID, PAN and bank details. Swiggy Instamart asks for Aadhaar and PAN, and a bank account for weekly pay.

Questions people ask

Do I need a licence or registration for an electric cycle?
Not if it is a low-speed model. Under the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, a two-wheel battery vehicle is not a motor vehicle if a government-approved testing agency has verified that its top speed is under 25 km/h, its motor power is low and it has brakes and reflectors. Such vehicles don't need registration with the transport department, and the driving licence rules for motor vehicles don't apply. Ask the seller or rental company for the testing approval.
What if a 'low-speed' e-scooter is actually faster?
Then it is a motor vehicle and the normal rules apply: type approval, registration and insurance, and you need a driving licence to ride it. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has warned states that some dealers sell faster e-scooters as low-speed models without approvals or insurance. If a scooter goes faster than 25 km/h, don't ride it for deliveries without a licence and papers.
Are the low-speed e-vehicle rules changing?
Possibly. On 21 August 2026 the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways published draft rules for public comments. The draft would allow more motor power and drop the weight limit, while the top speed stays under 25 km/h and checks by an approved testing agency are still needed. It was a draft, not a final rule, so check the latest rule before you buy.
Does Delhi's EV subsidy cover electric cycles?
The Delhi EV Policy 2026 lists purchase incentives for electric two-wheelers, e-autos and electric goods vehicles, claimed after the vehicle's registration certificate (RC) is made. Electric cycles are not in that list. Low-speed e-cycles are not registered, so they have no RC.
Can I rent a small electric bike for deliveries in Delhi?
Yes. Yulu's rentals page lists Delhi among its cities and shows its DeX vehicle for delivery work. Yulu says DeX is made to be low-cost for gig workers and comes with a goods carrier, a mobile holder and head and tail lights. Ask Yulu whether the model you get needs a driving licence.
Can I start with Rapido without my own bike?
In Delhi, Rapido lets you rent an EV from it. You still need a valid driving licence, at least 2 years of driving experience, and its 30-hour induction training.
