EV rental for delivery work in Delhi NCR

No bike of your own? A rented electric scooter is one way to start delivery work in Delhi NCR. Here is who offers EVs, how rental plans work, and what to check before you sign up.

Delivery companies that help with an EV

  • Rapido: in Delhi you can rent an EV from Rapido instead of using your own bike.
  • Shadowfax: rents out electric vehicles to its riders.
  • Flipkart Minutes: an electric two-wheeler on rent is possible through Flipkart's EV Assist, in some cities.
  • Swiggy and Swiggy Instamart: you can deliver on a rented bike or e-bike.

Each company runs this its own way. Ask our team on the call which openings come with an EV option.

How EV rental plans work

Zypp Electric rents e-scooters for delivery work and lists NCR among its areas. It has a few ways to work:

  • Rent: you pay a fixed rent and deliver with your own delivery-company ID. That company pays you.
  • Zypp Pilot: Zypp gives you the ID and pays you per delivery.
  • Rent-to-own: a down payment, then weekly rent from your earnings. After 52 weeks the scooter is yours.

With both Rent and Zypp Pilot, Zypp covers maintenance and battery swaps are unlimited. Insurance is only included if you opt in. KYC needs Aadhaar, PAN and bank details.

Licence and rules for a rented EV

  • Driving licence: a normal e-scooter is a motor vehicle, so you need a licence. Only low-speed models verified by an approved testing agency (top speed under 25 km/h) are not. Zypp asks for a valid licence for rent-to-own.
  • Goods permit: battery transport vehicles carrying goods don't need a permit for seven years, under a notification of 6 July 2026. The vehicle needs an AIS-140 location tracking device. Ask the rental company if it has one.

Battery swapping in Delhi

With a swappable battery you don't wait for charging. You hand in the empty battery and take a full one. Battery Smart says a swap takes about 2 minutes, and its website lists 328+ swapping stations in Delhi.

Swapping only works on vehicles made for swappable batteries. Check this before you rent.

Ask these questions before you sign up

  1. What is the full cost: rent, down payment and any deposit, per week?
  2. Is insurance included, or do I need to opt in?
  3. Who pays for repairs and maintenance?
  4. Can I swap batteries, and where?
  5. Do I need a driving licence for this model?
  6. Does the vehicle have a tracking device?

Write the answers down. Zypp's site gives no dated rent amount, so get the cost from them before you pay anything.

Buying your own EV later

If you live in Delhi, the Delhi EV Policy 2026 gives a subsidy on approved e-scooters with an ex-showroom price up to ₹2.25 lakh. In the first year after the policy was notified it is ₹10,000 per kWh of battery, up to ₹30,000. You must register the vehicle in Delhi and apply within 30 days of getting the RC. Road tax and registration fee are fully waived (100%) for electric two-wheelers registered in Delhi during the policy. If you scrap your old Delhi-registered BS-IV or older bike and buy a new electric one within six months, there is a ₹10,000 scrapping incentive.

Questions people ask

What does Delhi's new EV policy mean for delivery riders?
The Delhi Electric Vehicles Policy 2026 applies from 1 July 2026 to 31 March 2030. Delivery companies and fleet aggregators in Delhi may not add new petrol or diesel two-wheelers to their existing fleets; BS-VI two-wheelers are allowed only up to 31 December 2026. From 1 April 2028, only electric two-wheelers can be newly registered in Delhi. These dates are about company fleets and new registrations.
Is there a subsidy if I buy my own e-scooter in Delhi?
Yes, under the Delhi EV Policy 2026, for approved models with an ex-showroom price up to ₹2.25 lakh. In the first year after the policy was notified it is ₹10,000 per kWh of battery, up to ₹30,000; in the second year ₹6,600 per kWh, up to ₹20,000; in the third year ₹3,300 per kWh, up to ₹10,000. Swappable-battery models count too. You must live in Delhi, register the vehicle in Delhi and apply within 30 days of getting the RC; the money comes to your bank account (DBT). A vehicle that gets this subsidy can't be moved to another state's registration for three years from the policy's notification.
Do I pay road tax on an EV in Delhi? Is there money for scrapping my old bike?
Electric two-wheelers bought and registered in Delhi during the policy period get a 100% waiver of road tax and of the registration fee. If you scrap a Delhi-registered BS-IV or older two-wheeler at an authorised scrapping centre and buy a new electric one within six months of getting the Certificate of Deposit, you get a scrapping incentive of ₹10,000. Only the owner of the scrapped vehicle can claim it.
How does renting an e-scooter from Zypp Electric work?
Zypp Electric rents electric scooters for delivery work and lists NCR among the places it has expanded to. It has two options: Zypp Rental, where you pay a fixed rent, work with your own delivery-company ID and are paid by that company; and Zypp Pilot, where Zypp gives you the ID and pays you per delivery. In both, Zypp covers maintenance and battery swapping is unlimited; insurance needs you to opt in. To join, you complete KYC with Aadhaar, PAN and bank details. Zypp's site gives no dated rent amount, so ask for the full cost before you sign up.
Can I rent an EV and own it later?
Zypp Electric has a rent-to-own plan: you pay a down payment, then a weekly rent from your earnings, and the scooter becomes yours after 52 weeks of riding with Zypp. Zypp says anyone aged 18 or more with a valid driving licence, Aadhaar and PAN card can apply.
Where can I swap an EV battery in Delhi?
Battery Smart, a company registered in New Delhi, runs battery-swapping stations for electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers and loaders. You hand in the empty battery and get a fully charged one; the company says a swap takes about 2 minutes. Its website lists 328+ swapping stations in Delhi. Swapping works only with vehicles made for swappable batteries, so check this before you rent or buy.
Do I need a driving licence to ride a rented e-scooter?
For a normal e-scooter, yes: it counts as a motor vehicle. Only a low-speed battery two-wheeler that a government-approved testing agency has verified (top speed under 25 km/h, low motor power, brakes and reflectors) is not treated as a motor vehicle. Zypp Electric, for example, asks for a valid driving licence for its rent-to-own plan.
Does an electric delivery vehicle need a goods permit?
No, for now. A central government notification of 6 July 2026 says that for seven years, battery-operated transport vehicles carrying goods or passengers do not need a permit. They must have a vehicle location tracking device that meets the AIS-140 standard. If you rent an EV, ask the rental company whether the vehicle has this device.
Can I deliver for Rapido on a rented EV?
Yes. In Delhi, Rapido lets you rent an EV from it. Its other requirements still apply, such as a valid driving licence and a 30-hour induction training.
